Berlin Dharma
Berlin Dharma offers programs in insight meditation. All programs are English-speaking.
The heart of insight meditation is the practice of mindfulness, as explicated in the Buddha’s teaching on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. Through the practice of mindfulness we learn to cultivate skillful qualities, concentration and discernment.
The insight meditation teachings come from the Theravada tradition. Theravada practice is derived from the core teachings of the Buddha, as found in the Pali Canon, the earliest surviving record of what the Buddha taught.
It's important to remember that while insight meditation comes from the teachings of the Buddha, the practice is open to all students. One does not have to identify as Buddhist. And, in fact, over the years many students from many different religious and spiritual backgrounds have attended the insight meditation classes and been part of the community of practitioners. All are welcome!
Berlin Dharma was founded in 2018 by Peter Doobinin. When Peter returned to the US in 2020, he asked Katrin Micklitz to lead the group. Katrin looks forward to offering teachings in meditation and mindfulness in Berlin in the years to come.
Katrin Micklitz has been teaching meditation and mindfulness for many years. She is a certified coach and consultant. Katrin holds a DPhil (PhD) in Evidence-Based Health Care and a Master's in MIndfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), both from the University of Oxford (UK). To find out more about Katrin please visit her website.
Peter Doobinin is the guiding teacher of New York Dharma. He offers online teaching through The Dharma Student Project. In addition to Berlin Dharma, Peter is also a founder of New York Insight and Downtown Meditation Community. Although no longer a permanent resident of Berlin, he hopes to continue to visit Germany and teach dharma classes and retreats. He is the author of Skillful Pleasure and The Skill of Living.
