Wednesday Online Sitting

6 October

  -four determinations....

       -determination...

-determination, or persistence, is one of the ten paramis ... the skillful qualities we seek to develop as we move along the path.........
-determination is found in the effort we make over time  to practice the dharma....
                      -we stay with the practice....
-we understand that it may be difficult at time.....
-we understand that there will be ups and downs.....
-we understand that practice develops gradually....

-we stay with it out of compassion for ourselves and all beings....

       -four determinations...

-in cultivating detemination ... we cultivate a determination to do four things:
                  -not to neglect discernment.....
                  -to preserve the truth....
                  -to develop relinquishment....
                 -to train for peace....

              -not to neglect discernment........

                 -we continue to cultivate awareness....
-we bring awareness to our actions....
-seeing whether our actions are unskillful/skillful....

-we bring awareness to what the mind is doing....
                          -thinking.....
                          -holding on to mind/emotional states.....
-we continue to practice a simple awareness (ABC)....

                -to preserve the truth....

-we make it a priority to refrain from false speech....

-we make an ongoing efffort to be truthful with ourselves about ourselves...
                             -in terms of our actions....
-in terms of what we're doing that's causing suffering......
                                      -thinking....
                                      -clinging to mind/emotions.....

                  -develop relinquishment.....

-we question what we're doing that may be unskillful ... and we ask whether we have to continue to do what we're doing....
-we consider the possibility of letting go of........
                                 -actions that are unskillful.....
                                 -thinking that's causing suffering...
-painful emotions that we're holding on to....

                   -train for peace....

-we make it a goal to develop a mind that's at peace......
-to practice in an effort to have a less agitated mind ... a more tranquil mind ... a mind with greater ease...
                                     -to have peace of mind....
